The 23rd conference of the European Bird Census Council (EBCC) "Bird Numbers 2025: Synergies in monitoring for conservation" will be held from 31 March to 4 April 2025 in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The conference will be organised by the University of Latvia with support from the Latvia Ornithological Society. The abstract submission is now open here: conferences.lu.lv/event/579/

The deadline for oral presentations is September 30, and for poster presentations – January 15, 2025.

Registration for the conference will be opened soon. The early bird registration fee will be valid until January 15, 2025. The late fee will apply after January 15, 2025.

The venue is the House of Nature of the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia. Mid-conference excursions are planned to Ķemeri National park, Gauja National park, Lake Engure nature park and floodplain meadows of rivers Lielupe and Svēte, as well as cultural excursion to Rundāle Castle.

EBCC conferences are held triennially, gathering researchers and conservationists engaged in bird monitoring, research, and conservation from Europe and beyond. Talks at the conference encompass a wide array, including outcomes from recent bird monitoring initiatives, waterbird counts, and atlases. Additionally, the conference topics include investigations on the drivers of population change, demographics, and distribution patterns among European bird species. The effectiveness of conservation measures and governmental policies, advancements in technology, methodologies, and analytical approaches, the utilisation of birds as environmental indicators, and the evolution of citizen science initiatives are also featured.
